Pocket Book 23rd May
With a Bank Holiday this weekend, here are some ways to relax, wind down and hopefully enjoy the sunshine... Enjoy ...
To Stitch
Embroidery seems to be having a bit of a renaissance at the moment - or am I just catching up. It’s a perfect way to add a little bit of personality to basics and can really elevate a cashmere sweater. Having just bought Embroidering on Knits by Judit Gummlich I am determined to have a go this weekend trying some of the designs. I will let you know how I get on. There are some ideas HERE.
To Button
Another quicker way to pep up your knitwear is to add different buttons, having bought some velvet covered buttons this weekend, I am planning to add a little colour to a plain cardigan. I love covered buttons and have a huge jar of them, gathered from garments over the years so may well have a go at using som of those too.
To Dye
Finally, if you have a loved piece of clothing that has seen better days, often a dye bath can lift it and give it a new lease of life. There are shop bought dyes that you can use but much more satisfying is taking everyday kitchen finds and using them as a dye. Turmeric, onion skins, or marigolds can be used for oranges and yellows; beetroot, avocado skins, or blackberries for pinks and reds; red cabbage or black beans for blues and purples. Seasalt and The Good Trade have easy to follow guides. Just remember that this only works with natural fabrics.
Hope you have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and that the sun shines, let me know if you have any more ideas for gentle hobbies to relax and inspire. Charlotte
